POSSIBLE TESTS OF THE ELEMENTARITY OF THE PHOTON AND THE ELECTRON

Journal Article · · Phys. Letters
A test of the elementarity of the photon is suggested by means of the electron-electron colliding beam experiment. Since the process e/sup -/ + e/sup - / yields e/sup -/ + e/sup -/ cross section to t he order alpha /sup 3/ has been calculated in detail, any significant deviation of the experimental cross section may be attributed to the non-elementary character of the proton that is exchanged. The process e/sup +/ + e/sup -/ yields gamma + gamma is also analyzed as a possible test of the elementarity of the electron, for, if the photon is a Regge particle, there is no reason to dismiss the same possibility for the electron.
