SEARCH FOR ALPHA ACTIVITY IN NEUTRON DEFICIENT ISOTOPES OF Pb, Tl, Hg, Pt, AND Te
Neutron deficient nuclides produced in the Uppsala synchrocyclotron were studied with an alpha ionization chamber, using sources of up to 10/sup 8/ dis/ min gross beta activity. The following alpha activities were observed: 3.78 ction in DDT-C/ 0.05 Mev, 10.5 ction in DDT-C/ 1.0 d, alpha branching 0.5 x 10/ sup -6/, assigned to Pt/sup 188/. 5.14 ction in DDT-C/ 0.05 Mev, 3.0 ction in DDT-C/ 0.5 min, assigned to Hg/sup 188/ or Hg/sup 187/; 5.64 ction in DDT-C/ 0.05 Mev, 53 ction in DDT-C/ 4 sec, assigned to Hg/sup 186/ or Hg/sup 185/; 6.45 ction in DDT-C/ 0.10 Mev, 33 sec, possibly due to a low-mass Bi isotope formed from lead contaminating a gold target. Upper limits varying from 10/sup - 9/ to 5 x 10/sup -5/ are set for the alpha branching of the following nuclides: Te/sup 116/-- Te/sup 119/;, Au/sup 189/--Au/sup 193/; Hg/sup 189/-Hg/sup 193/; Tl/ sup 193/-Tl/sup 195/;Tl/su p 198/; and Pb/sup 196/ Pb/sup 198/.
