ULTRASTRUCTURAL MODIFICATION AND HISTOLOGY OF THE NEURONS OF THE SUPEROPTIC NUCLEUS IN RATS EXPOSED TO IRRADIATION (in Italian)

Investigations with histological methods and the electronlc microscope were made on the behavior of neurones of the supraoptic nucleus in the rat following irradiation with 1500 rad of x and Co/sup 60/ radiations. Attention is given to the alterations both of the nucleus and the cytoplasm which were evident right after the end of the irradiation. In the majority of cells, the alterations regressed quickly within some hours following the irradiation and only a few elements showed an evolution towards a degenerative process, which led in some months to the destruction of the affected neurone.
