The results obtained in the study of the radiolysis of cyclopentane were reported. At 20 deg C iodocyclopentane is, by far, the major product of the radiolysis of cyclopentane in the presence of iodine. Non-negligible yields of methyl iodide, 1-iodopentane, and 1,5-dilodopentane were also observed. Hydriodic acid formed by interception of hydrogen atoms can be captured, during radiolysis, by calcium carbonate. The existence of parasitic addition reaction of HI on the alkenes produced by radiolysis is thus shown. The study of the iodide yields in the radiolysis of liquid cyclopentane in the presence of iodine at --78 and + 81 deg C and of cyclopentane vapor at 81 deg C adds complementary information which allows a rational scheme to be deduced. This scheme is established from experimental results and from general data; its value is limited by the lack of information on the molecular'' products of radiolysis. The interpretation gives a large place to reactions of the parent ion before its neutralization: degradation and ionmolecule reactions. Some results obtained on cyclohexane allow the conclusions obtained by the study of cyclopentane to be generalized to the cyclane series. (tr-auth)
