EARLY MODIFICATION OF THE SUCCINO-DEHYDROGENASE ACTIVITY IN THE BRAIN AND CEREBELLUM OF RATS IRRADIATED WITH Co$sup 6$$sup 0$ (in Italian)

The authors have studied the early behavior after irradiation of the succinodehydrogenasic activity in the brain and cerebellum of rats having undergone external teleirradiation by gamma-rays of Co/sup 60/ with a beam concentrated on the region of the head. The animals, treated respectively with 500, 1500, 3000, and 4000 rad dosages were sacrificed some 10 min, 6 hr, 24 hr, and 7 days after the end of treatment. The amount of succino-dehydrogenase was established by the Kun and Aboods biochemical method and related to 100 mg of fresh weight of the tissue examined. Both in the braln and in the cerebellum of rats treated with the different doses there was an increase of the succinodehydrogenasic activity 10' after the irradiation, which went gradually back to normal values during the following controls.
