$gamma$-RAY-INDUCED GRAFT COPOLYMERIZATION. II. THE COMPOSITION OF STYRENE GRAFTED POLYETHYLENE FILM

Journal Article · · Kobunshi Kagaku (Japan) Changed to Kobunshi Ronbunshu
OSTI ID:4734324

Radioinduced grafted ftlms contained a large quantity of the styrene homopolymer. The polystyrene homopolymer (A) could be separated by means of dissolution in hot xylene followed by cooling or by extraction with hot dioxane. It was found that the percentages of the grafted polystyrene to the total polystyrene in film were 25 and 35 in high and low pressure, respectively. Both grafted and occluded polystyrenes increased with increasing dosage at a near constant rate. The average molecular weight of the occluded (A) was about 5 times larger than the (A) produced in the liquid phase. (OID)
