THE QUASIBINARY SYSTEM UFe$sub 2$-UAl$sub 2$ (in German)

The pseudo-binary system of UFe/sub 2/-UAl/sub 2/ was estiblished by means of micrography, thermal analysis, temperaturetemperature difference measurements, and x-ray examinations. An eutectic three-phase equilibrium (S = UFe/sub 2/ + UFeAl) was formed which extenis from 13 to 22 at. % Al at 1015 deg C and which has an eutectic point at 20.; at. % Al. Also a peritectic three phase-equilibrium was discovered with 33 to 53 at, % Al it 1060 deg C, In medium concentrition ranges a ternary Laves phase of the C14(MgZn/sub 2/) type occurs whose phase region extends from 22 at.% Al at 1015 deg C to 40 at. % Al at 1060 deg C. UFe/sub 2/ can dissolve up to approximately 13 at. % Al under drifting of the unit cell, while UAl/sub 2/ takes up into solid solution up to 13 at.% Al under contracting of the unit cell. (auth)
