The equilibrium relation between UAl/sub 2/ and U/sub 3/Si/sub 2/ was investigated by a combination of thermal, microscopic, x-ray, and temperature - temperature difference meas urements. These intermetallic phases are components of a simple eutectic system with the eutectic point lying at 26 at.% Si and 1360 deg C. A complete miscibility gap is found at 850 deg C. The solubilities of Si in UAl/sub 2/ and of Al in U/sub 3/Si/sub 2/ are similar and amount to 1 at.% at the eutectic temperature. (auth)
