PROTON PRECESSION MAGNETOMETER AS A STANDARD AT THE U.S. NAVAL AIR DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4733559
A proton free-precession magnetometer, which makes use of the mechanical and magnetic properties of the proton to measure the total magnitude of the earth's magnetic field, is discussed. This instrument can serve as a secondary standard for the measurement of weak magnetic fields. The basis of this standardization is reviewed and tabular values of instrument count versus magnetic field are recorded for use with this instrument in the locality of Johnsville, Pennsylvania.
