A process is given for treating slliceous beryllium ores for the production of beryllium fluoride. The process comprises contacting the ores with a HF -steam mixture at 200 to 300 un. Concent 85% C, leading the SiF/sub 4/ off, and leaching the residue to recover the beryllium. The process proferably is carried out in a fluidized bed, and HF is recovered from the SiF/sub 4/ by decomposition with water vapor at>600 un. Concent 85% C. (D.L.C.)
