THE PREPARATION AND PROPERTIES OF PERTECHNETYL FLUORIDE, TcO$sub 3$F

Journal Article · · Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry (England) Merged with Inorg. Nucl. Chem. Lett. to form Polyhedron
Pertechnetyl fluoride, TcO/sub 3/F was prepared for the first time in gram quantities by the reaction of fluorine with TcO/sub 2/ at 150 un. Concent 85% C. Its properties are intermediate between those of MnO/sub 3/F and ReO/sub 3/ F. It is a yellow solid which melts at 18.3 un. Concent 85% C to a yellow liquid. The vapor-pressure is represented by the following equations: Solid (- 8.78 to 18.28 un. Concent 85% C): log/sub 10/ p = 12.448 - (3239.4/T); Liquid 18.28 to 51.82 un. Concent 85% C): log/sub 10/ p = 8.417 - (2064.6/T). The boiling point extrapolated from vapor-pressure measurements is about 100 un. Concent 85% C. TcO/sub 3/F is stable at room temperature and can be stored in nickel of monel containers. It is hydrolysed by water to pertechnetic and hydrofluoric acids. (auth)
