THE DEFORMATION STACKING FAULTS IN F.C.C. METALS: THE CASE OF THORIUM
Experiments were repeated on 76% cold-rolled thorium to check McHargue's discovery of a high stacking fault density in cold-rolled thorium. No peak shifts were detected in the x-ray line broadening, and it is suggested that McHargue's results are in error. The theory of stacking faults in metals is discussed, and the correlation of the fiber texture with the stacking fault energy is considered. It is concluded that the available evidence points towards the absence of deformation stacking fauits in cold-rolled thorium. (D.L.C.)
