OPERATING PROCESS FOR A NUCLEAR REACTOR AND REACTOR FOR APPLICATION OF THIS PROCESS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4730387
An operating process for a nuclear reactor consists in guiding nuclear fuel via tubes through the reactor core. These tubes contain a liquid moderator and have portions parallel to the reactor axis. According to a first embodiment these tubes have sloping portions going from the periphery to the center of the reactor. According to a second embodiment the tubes have the shape of conical or plane spirals, the nuclear fuel being fed to the spiral tubes at the outer extremities of them, while it is removed from the inner ones. The tube extremities reach respectively in an upper and a lower collecting chamber. Preferably the lower collecting chamber is partially filled with an inert gas, the pressure of which serves to maintain the moderator liquid level in the tubes. (IIB)
