ON THE NUMBER OF NEUTRONS EMITTED BY U$sup 234$ AND Pu$sup 240$ IN THE SYMMETRICAL FISSION REGION

The number of neutrons nu emitted by U/sup 234/ and Pu/sup 240/ is measured for different ratios of fragment masses. A sharp increase of nu is detected in the symmetrical fission region. The dependence of nu on the mass ratios correlates well with the total kinetic energy of the fragments. (auth)
