A TRANSISTORIZED FAST COINCIDENCE CIRCUIT FOR USE WITH SLOW SCINTILLATORS

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods

A fast coincidence circuit for current-pulse input consisting of two limiters, a sensitive voltage discriminator and an output stage is described. The application of the clipped pulses to the discriminator and the d-c coupling throughout the circuit permtt operation at high coincidence rates. A resolving time of 7 nsec at 100% coincidence efficiency is realized with 3" NaI (Tl) scintillators, 58 AVP photomultipliers and a 2 x 2.5 nsec clipping line. Simple circuitry and high discrimination threshold stability result in very reliable operation. (auth)
