The optical system of a bubble chamber in coordination with the chamber assembly is complex. Some indication of the problems and the solutions derived is given by a discussion of the illumination of a bubble by a beam of parallel light, chamber illumination, position of the objective, selection of the objective and film, optical quality of various portholes, obtaining a black background, antireflection treatment of surfaces, and cameras and flashes.
