DEPENDENCE OF THE TOTAL KINETIC ENERGY OF FISSION PRODUCTS ON THE ENERGY OF THE BOMBARDING NEUTRONS (in Russian)

Consideration of fission product energies indicated that the kinetic energy increases with increasing energy of the bombarding particles in case of symmetric fission. In order to ascertain the validity of this assumption, the kinetic energy of fission products resulting from the fissioning of U/sup 235/ by thermal and 14.5-Mev neutrons was measured, making use of a previously described method of the authors (Zhur. Eksptl'. i Teoret. Fiz. 42: 1475(1982) No. 8). Results revealed a great difference in the energy dependence of the excitation energy of the fissioning nuclei for symmetric and assymetric fission phenomena, confirming the existence of 2 types of fissions as proposed by H. Levy et al., (Phys. Rev. 124: 544(1961)) on the basis of radiochemical data. (TTT)
