ABSORPTION OF STOPPED $pi$-MESONS IN CARBON (in Russian)

Stars produced by mesons ( e (as Fe/sup 59 /sup -/) stopped in a four liter propane bubble chamber are investigated. The distribution of the stars with respect to number of prongs is determined; the mean number of prongs is 0.84. The distribution of twoprong stars with respect to the angle between the prongs was also measured and found to have a sharp peak at angles close to 180 un. Concent 85% . Both results indicate a two-nucleon mechanism of meson ( e (as Fe/ sup 59 /sup -/) absorption by the carbon nucleus. The probability of meson ( e (as Fe/sup 59 /sup -/) absorption by an np pair is 70%. (auth)
