A propane bubble chamber was employed to study stars produced in the absorption of 50 plus or minus 20 Mev pi /sup +/ mesons in carbon nuclei. The cross section for production of such stars was found equal to 145 plus or minus 36 mb. The star prong distribution is characterized by an average number of prongs equal to 2.6 plus or minus 0.3. An appreciable anisotropy of the angular distribution of the prongs relative to the direction of motion of the pi /sup +/ meson was observed The main cause of this anisotropy is apparently preabsorption scattering of pi /sup +/ mesons on separate nucleons in the nucleus. A distribution of two-prong stars with respect to the angle between the prongs is presented. (auth)
