REACTIVITY MEASUREMENT USING PSEUDORANDOM SOURCE EXCITATION

A method of reactivity measurement in the far subcritical range, using a neutron source modulated in a noise-like manner, is presented. Reactivity is estimated by examining the impulse response of the reactor, which is measured by a digital cross-correlation technique. It appears that this method has several advantages over pulsed neutron methods. The experiment can be realized using a commercially available neutron source and some fairly simple pulse circuitry. Statistical analysis indicates that reasonable experimental accuracy can be achieved in a relatively short observation interval. (auth)
