LEUCOCYTIC RESPONSE TO HETEROLOGOUS BLOOD TRANSFUSION IN IRRADIATED RATS

Journal Article · · Byul. Eksperim. Biol. i Med.
OSTI ID:4724324
Experiments were carried out on 52 female rats weighing 156 to 310 g. The whole-body irradiation dose was 450 r (LD/sub 50/30/) and the dose rate 59 r/ min. Heparinized blood from a dog (0.1 mg of heparin/l ml blood) was used for transfusion. The transfusion rate was 0.1 ml/sec and the dose 2 ml/100 g body weight. The blood for analysis was obtained from the caudal vein 54 to 56 min before, and 1-, 2-, 3-, and 6-hr after transfusion, performed 6 hr, 3 days, and 4 and 8 weeks after irradiation. It was found that the leukocytic response to heterologous blood transfusion was preserved also after irradiation, despite the presence of severe disorders in leukopoiesis, resulting from acute radiation sickness.
