STUDY OF PLUTONIUM BY HIGH RESOLUTION SPECTROSCOPY. I. CONTRIBUTION TO THE CLASSIFICATION OF THE ARC SPECTRUM (in French)

Journal Article · · Annales de Physique (Paris) (France)
OSTI ID:4723884
The experimental study of the arc spectrum of Pu was preceded by a theoretical review of the methods used for the classification of complex spectra and their application to the classification of the arc spectrum of Pu. The determination of the J values by measurement of the intensities of the hyperfine components of Pu/sup 239/ and the advantages of this method are reviewed. The experimental study of the hyperfine structure and the isotopic displacement of the rays of the Pu arc spectrum confirmed the ground configuration of neutral Pu 5f/sup 6/7s/sup 2/ while making more precise the structure of the ground multiplet /sup 7/F/sub 0.6/. The configuration f/sup 5/ds/sup 2/ was shown and the first level of this configuration was located. Continued efforts were made to classify the Pu arc spectrum, but the first multiplet of the 5f/sup 6/7s8s is still unknown. The results obtained are shown in tabular form. (J.S.R.)
