A METHOD OF ACCELERATING ELECTRONS IN AN INDUCTION ACCELERATOR
A proposal is made to replace the accelerating chamber in a betatron type induction accelerator with injector by a ring made of a material that can be brought to a superconducting state (Sn--Bi alloy). If such a ring, cooled down to a necessary temperature, is placed into the betatron magnet gap, a flux of accelerated conductivity electrons can be produced with a density exceeding several times that obtained in the conventional betatron. To generate gamma radiation, it is proposed to use an electrode specially welded to the superconducting ring; material of the electrode should preserve conductivity close to the normal one (tungsten). Displacement of the equilibrium orbit is performed in the usual way. (Referativnyy Zhurnal, Fiyika, No.5, 1962).
