MODULAR SPARK CHAMBERS

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods

One-, two-, and four-gap spark chamber modules are constructed using 0.012 in. Al plates glued to lucite frames with gap dimensions of 1/4 x 21 x 21 in. Efficiencies>99% were obtained with no edge or satellite sparking and only occasional sparks at the gas holes. Techniques used in achieving these results are listed. An assembly of modules, scintillators, lead, and carbon used to search for /sup +/ and up to st r e/sup +/ + gamma is shown. (A.G.W.)
