SPARK CHAMBERS WITH SMALL AMOUNT OF MATERIAL ALONG THE TRACKS

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods

A spark chamber for detection of secondary mesons was constructed of 8 Al foils, each 7 thick, drawn on steel tambours and separated by a 1-cm gap. The chamber was placed in a container with polyethylene windows 70 thick. The amount of material in the way of particles was 8 x 10/sup -3/ radiation length. Curves show the efficiency in Ar and Ne. The effects of impurities in the Ar and Ne are discussed briefly. Data on the efficiency of detection of many particles in one gap are tabulated. (A.G.W.)
