NUCLEAR POLARISATION OF Mn$sup 54$ IN IRON

Journal Article · · Phys. Letters
The hyperfine field in Mn/sup 54/ dissolved in iron was measured by the method of nuclear orientation. The hyperfine field was found to be 146 surface proces 5 k oersteds. From this value for the hyperfine field the zero-field nuclear magnetic resonance frequency of stable Mn/sup 55/ in iron was predicted to be 154 Mc. The nuclear contribution to the specific heat of dilute Mn--Fe alioys was discussed and it was suggested that Mn/sup 54/ provides a suitable alternative thermometer for investigations of the nuclear orientation of isotopes having rays with energy near the Co/sup 60/ ray.
