A NEW PROCEDURE FOR THE PREPARATION OF HEAVY WATER BY ISOTOPIC EXCHANGE (in French)

A new method for the preparation of heavy water is based on the isotopic exchange of gaseous ammonia and the hydrogen contained in a synthetic gas. This exchange should be catalyzed by potassium amide in liquid ammonia solution. After a review of the principles of the preparation of heavy water by isotopic exchange, the difficulties in setting up NH/sub 3/-H/sub 2/ exchange are discussed, and the methods for avoiding these difficulties are described. The advantages of this procedure with respect to other procedures are shown. (tr- auth)
