THE SEPARATION OF POLONIUM FROM IRRADIATED BISMUTH WITH ION EXCHANGERS (in German)

Journal Article · · Kernenergie (East Germany)
OSTI ID:4718653
A method was described which permits the carrier-free separation of Po from irradiated Bi. The concentrated hydrochloric acid solution of the irradiation product was exposed to the exchanger Wofatit SbU or Amberlite XE 98. If concentrated HCl is used to elute the ion exchanger, no BETA or gamma radiation can be detected. The Po remains on the exchanger. It can be dissolved with HNO/sub 3/ (1:1) or HClO/sub 4/ (1: 1) from XE 98 or with concentrated HClO/ sub 4/ from SbU. Approximately 17% remains on the SbU exchanger. The eluted Po solution is free of inactive Bi. (tr-auth)
