SEPARATION OF SUBSTANCES PRESENT IN NEUTRON-IRRADIATED URANIUM

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4236102

An ion-exchange chromatographic process for irradiated U is described. The U in HNO/sub 3/ solution is passed through a phenol formaldehyde resin column where U, Pu, and fission products are chromatographically adsorbed. The U is eluted by 0.2 M H/sub 2/CO/sub 4/, the fission products are removed by 0.6 M H/ sub 3/PO/sub 4/ 1 M in HNO/sub 3/, the Pu is then eluted by 0.8 M H/sub 3/PO/sub 4/ 1 M in HNO/sub 3/.
