PRODUCTION OF METALLIC PROMETHIUM (in German)

Journal Article · · Angew, Chem.
OSTI ID:4718267
Metallic promethium was obtained by the reduction of PmF/sub 3/ with Li in a high vacuum. As a starting material processed promethium'' from ORNL was used. The material contained about 60mg Pm/sup 147/, 50mg Sm, 40mg Nd, and 7mg Am/sup 241/. The Pm was separated by ion exchange and solvent extraction. Solutions of Pm/sup 3+/ in HNO/sub 3/ were reacted with HF to prepare PmF/sub 3/. The PmF/sub 3/ was reacted with Li at 2.7 x 10/sup -6/ton and 750 to 1090 un. Concent 85% C. (M.C.G.)
