SOLUBILITY AND DIFFUSION OF GASES IN BERYLLIUM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4718171
Results of an experimental program to determine the solubility and diffusion rate of N, H, and O in Be are reported. The solubillty of N in Be at 1000 un. Concent 85% C is estimated to be about 60 ppm, and appears to be temperature independent. The results of N diffusion experiments are considered tentative. The solubility of H in Be is believed to be very small. Measurement of the growth characteristics of H bubbles formed in Be by proton bombardment indicate a value for the diffusion coefficient of H in Be of 9 x 10/sup -10/ cm/ sup 2//sec at 850 un. Concent 85% C. Owing to limitations of chemical analysis, no new data concerning the Be-O system were obtained. (auth)
