GAMMA DOSE RATE CALCULATIONS FORT HE BNL-KILOROD PROGRAM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4718117
Gamma dose rates were calculated at various distances from a U/sup 233/ source (containing 38 ppm U/sup 232/) at the operating stations of the Kilorod Facility. These dose rates, along with expected operating times at each station, were used to estimate gamma dose to the hands of operating personnel. The maximum exposure case was evaluated in which a single operator was assumed to perform all operations in the facility over a two-week period. A maximum dose to hands of 1000 mrem/man-week was obtained for the second week of operation. Actual operating practice will reduce the hand dose substantially below this value. The calculations, along with basic assumptions are reviewed. Dose rates at important operating stations or from significant pieces o f equipment are plotted. (auth)
