Of 1019 cases of breast cancer, treated from 1936 to 1955, there were 10 cases (0.98%) of supra-mammary lesions, 5 were treated with x-ray therapy alone, 3 with mastectomy followed by high-dose radiotherapy, and 2 with preoperative x- ray therapy followed by radical mastectomy. 8 patients survived 5 years in good condition, but 1 had a bone metastasis in the 6th year. 2 patients survived in apparently good condition 14 and 21 years. 1 patient was lost sight of, and counted as failure. 1 patient with bilateral tumor died rapidly of generalized metastases. All treatments were with 200 kv, and 1 mm Cu filter; fractionated, generally, over 3 months. (auth)
