ON THE DIFFERENCE OF TWO PEAKS IN MOSSBAUER QUADRUPOLE SPLITTING SPECTRA (in Russian)

An analysis is made of three postulates for explaining the difference of the two peaks in Mossbauer doublet splitting spectra observed in Sn(C/sub 6/H/sub 5/)/sub 3/Cl, SnO, and some iron compounds. The postulation that asymmetry of doublet Mossbauer lines is caused by superimposed singlet lines of two chemical forms or that it is caused by anisotropic crystal orientation in relation to the gamma quanta are rejected in favor of a third postulation that states that quadrupole Mossbauer splitting in isotropic polycrystal should generally have various peaks, except for specific cases in which the isotropic Mossbauer effect is symmetric. This was previously proved by tests using Mossbauer anisotropic effect in corresponding monocrystals. The asymmetry of two peaks was analyzed in Sn(C.sub 6/H/sub 5/)/sub 3-/ Cl and in other isotropic and anisotropic specimens at two angles to the gamma quanta. The results confirm the third postulation on the Mossbauer anisotropy. (R.V.J.)
