A METHOD FOR SUPPRESSING PHOTOMULTIPLIER NOISE
Technical Report

The system was designed to take advantage of the difference in pulse length of slow-decay-time scintillators, such as CsI(Tl) and NaI(Tl), and the photomultiplier noise. The design has the advantage of simplicity and of using mostly standard electronic components, and is similar to the pulse shape discriminator system used to distinguish particle types. A typical spectrum obtained using the suppressor with a 8-kev x ray from Fe/sup 56/ on a CsI(Tl) crystal mounted on an RCA 6801A photomuitiplier is shown. (B.O.G.)
