DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE OF A SMALL-ANGLE, HIGH-INTENSITY SECONDARY PARTICLE BEAM FROM THE CERN PROTON SYNCHROTRON

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods
Specialized beam transport arrangements that can be used at small angles without serious reduction in collection solid angle are described. The beam consists of two parts: the first comprises two special focusing and bending magnets that bend the particles 25 and focus them into a momentum-dispersed image 8m away from the target; the second part consists of standard CERN beam transport elements that produce an image with very good correction at 22m from the target. Curves show total observed beam intensities and particle ratios. (A.G.W.)
