AUTOMATIC GAP COUNTING

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods
An almost fully automatic method for measuring mean gap lengths along bubble chamber tracks is described. The track image is produced by a projection microscope on a screen and moved at constant speed past a slit. The slit is scanned 300 times per second and pulses of different shapes are recorded by a photomultipiier to indicate whether the slit is lying across a bubble or across a gap. No results are yet available, but is is expected that a track of 3 cm can be measured in 1 1/2 min. Possible improvements in the apparatus are considered briefly. (A.G.W.)
