POLARIZATION OF NEUTRONS FROM THE PHOTODISINTEGRATION OF DEUTERIUM

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters

The measurement was performed using a linac operated at approximates 30 Mev with approximates 6 kw of beam power. The bremsstrahlung target, 0.014 in. of tantalum backed with 8 in. of water, was enclosed by about 1 ft of iron and 2 ft of water. A hole in the shielding allowed the collimated bremsstrahlung beam to impinge on a ( gamma ,n) target 4 ft from the tantalum. The neutrons were viewed through a collimation system at 90 deg to the photon beam by a neutron spectrometer polarimeter. Percent polarization of photoneutrons from deuterium was computed. (C.E.S.)
