The differential cross-section for the elastic scattering of 7 Bev/c pions on protons was investigated in a 24-liter propane bubble chamber. 508 eiastic scatterings of e (as Fe/sup 59 /sup -/ mesons on free protons were selected from two-prong events, and the differential cross-section was measured for cos /sub cms/ < 0.995. By making use of the optical theorem to account for the forward scattering the total elastic cross-section was estimated to be (5.13) mb. The shape of the differential cross section is compared with the theoretical predictions of Domokos. (auth)
