INVESTIGATION OF ELASTIC SCATTERING OF $pi$$sup -$-MESONS WITH MOMENTUM 6, 8 Bev/c ON PROTONS IN A PROPANE BUBBLE CHAMBER (in Russian)

The elastic scattering of 6.8 Bev/c negative pions on protons was studied in a propane bubble chamber. The total and differential cross sections of the elastic scattering were determined, based on 213 events. The total pi / sup -/-p interaction cross section was estimated to be 30 plus or minus 5 mb. The results of the elastic scattering experiment were consistent with the optical model analysis of the proton as a uniform sphere with sharp bundaries of R = 1.05 x 10/sup -13/ cm K = 0.71 x 10/sup 13/ cm/sup -1/, and k/sup 1/ = 0.
