QUADRUPOLE INTERACTION AND ISOMER SHIFT IN Te$sup 12$$sup 5$

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4712774
S>A Mossbauer absorption curve was obtained using a polycrystalline NaIO/ sub 3/ source enriched with I/sup 125/ and an absorber of tellurium (normal and Te/sup 125/ enriched) embedded in thin Lucite disks. Asymmetry due to the existence of ine Te/sup 125/ formed by I/sup 125/ decay in +4 and +6 valence states is noted, and the isomer shifts and quadrupole splittings associated with the states are determined by least squares fitting the data. The Mossbauer absorption spectra for Na/sub 2/TeO/sub 3/ and TeO/sub 3/ absorbers at 84 c- K were also measured. The +5 valence state for Te is concluded to be unstable in crystalline solids.
