SOME REMARKS ON PHOTOGRAPHIC EMULSION (in French)

Journal Article · · J. Phys.
OSTI ID:4712463

The canal along the track of an ionizing particle seen in a nuclear emulsion after development is illustrated. The track of an ionizing particle is longer in a wet emulsion than in a dry emulsion. This is explained by the fact that the stopping power of water is much less than that of the normal emulsion. The transformation of the gelatine into a substance soluble in water by the passage of an iorizing particle is then discussed. A tunnel'' containing the silver particles is forraed during development because the soluble gelatine is washed away. Thus the passage of an alpha particle through an emulsion leaves a wake'' marked not only by a demarcation of the silver grains but also by a sort of tunnel'' appearing after the development of the emulsion.
