THE PHASE DIAGRAM OF TiCr$sub 2$-NbCr$sup 2$ (in Russian)

The intermetallic compounds TiCr/sub 2/ and NbCr/sub 2/ have similar crystallographic properties and have a polymorphic transition. The low- temperature modification of TiCr/sub 2/ exists up to 1300 deg C and that of NbCr/ sub 2/ up to 1590 deg C. The results of thermal analysis showed that mixtures of TiCr/sub 2/ and NbCr/sub 2/ from 100% TiCr/sub 2/ to 100% NbCr/sub 2/ all h ave a polymorphic conversion with a transition temperature which rises monotonically on going from 100% TiCr/sub 2/ to 100% NbCr/sub 2/. A continuous series of solid solutions is formed not only between the high-temperature modifications, but also between the low-temperature modifications. The phase diagram shows the formation of a low-temperature gamma phase, a BETA phase of TiCr/sub 2/, and a high- temperature delta phase. An x-ray phase analysis was run on the alloys after quenching from 1300 deg C and a long annealing at 1000 deg C for 200 hours. The results indicated the formation of a cubic modification, and pointed to the formation of a continuous series of solid solutions between the cubic modifications of the intermetallic compounds.
