MICRODETERMINATION AND SEPARATION OF CALCIUM AND STRONTIUM IN URINE

Journal Article · · Microchemical Journal (U.S.)
A method is presented for the determination and separation of calcium and strontium in urine. It is based on the different solubilities of the sulfates in weakly acid solution. The separation is accomplished by dissolving the combined oxalates in ammonium bisulfate and heating in a boiling water bath for 25 minutes. The specificity of the direct precipitation of calcium oxalate from urine is improved by a preliminary extraction with chloroform. A new wash liquid is introduced, a mixture of concentrated ammonia and glacial acetic acid, in which calcium and strontium oxalate are practically insoluble. The method is easily applied to serum and ash solutions of biological specimens. (auth)
