DEVICE FOR MEASURING FISSION PRODUCTS IN A GAS PHASE AND ADAPTED FOR BURST SLUG DETECTION

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4711728
In order to detect burst slugs, the ions formed by daughter products of gaseous fission products are electrostatically precipitated before they are brought to a radiation detection device. According to this patent, a cylindrical precipitation chamber is provided whereby the repulsion electrode is formed by the cylinder wall and an insulated piston is adapted to slide inside said cylinder supporting at its front face an electrode onto which said daughter products are precipitated. The cylinder is closed by the fronts of a scintillation counter and said piston, respectively. forming between them the precipitation chamber through which said gaseous phase flows. After a precipitation period, the piston with its electrode is brought into contact with the scintillation counter. (NPO)
