DISCUSSION OF FOCUSING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE STANFORD TWO-MILE ACCELERATOR

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4711482
As part of a discussion on focusing requirements of the Stanford two- mile accelerator, treatment is given the transmission of an electron beam showing that for reduction of beam size a number of lenses are required. Some strong- focusing arrangements are discussed, and a section on choice of parameters such as quadrupole strength, length of unfocused machine, number of quadrupoles, and quadrupole spacing is included. A numerical example dealing with a positron beam is given, and design characteristics of a few quadrupoles are listed. (D.C.W.)
