BEHAVIOR OF VARIOUS CELLULOSES AT GRAFT COPOLYMERIZATION BY IRRADIATION

Cellulose exhibits various behavior in chemical reactions when its micro- and submicro-structure are different. Graft copolymerization of styrene on the various celluloses is described. Four kinds of cellulose fibers are employed, i.e., regular rayon staple fiber, high strength staple fiber, polynosic fiber, and cotton. Simultaneous and pre-irradiation techniques of high-energy radiation are applied for the grafting. (T.F.H.)
