The measurement of dose distributions of radiation is one of the most important techniques in radiation therapy, but the manual execution of this procedure is tedious, rather inaccurate, and time consuming. In this paper an instrument for automatic recording of isodose curves is described. This instrument is composed of three devices: detector driver, controller, and recorder. A detector is driven by two reversible motors; one is a scan drive and the other is an error compensation drive. Sequential alteration of the roles of the two motors provides complete mapping of the continuous isodose curves. Many isodose curves for several kinds of radiations were recorded using this instrument and recording accuracy is found to be 21%. Plotting speed is about 40 minutes for a family of ten contours in a 40 x 40 cm plotting area. This instrument can be effectively applied for spatial intensity distributions of electric field, light, photographic density, etc. (JAIF)
