THE EXTRACTION OF HYDROCHLORIC ACID AND SOME METAL CHLORIDES BY TRI-n- BUTOXY-ETHYL PHOSPHATE

Journal Article · · Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry (England) Merged with Inorg. Nucl. Chem. Lett. to form Polyhedron

The physical chemistry of the extraction of HCl from aqueous solution by tributoxyethyl phosphate (TBEP) was studied. In addition to the conventional distribution and water content determination, physical- chemical measurements of electrical conductivity, density, and viscosity of the organlc layer were carried out. The results indicate the formation of a monosolvate, HCl. TBEP. The extraction of chlorides of Zn/sup 2+/, In/sup 3+/, and Cr/sup 3+/ from aqueous hydrochl-oric acid into undiluted TBEP and into mixtures of TBEP and benzene was studied using radioactive tracers. The extraction behavior of TBEP was compared with that of tri-n-butyl phosphate. (auth)
