PLASTIC DEFORMATION AND RUPTURE OF MONOCRYSTALLINE URANIUM BY TENSILE STRESS AT -196 C (in French)

The plastic behavior of uranium monocrystals, made by the phase- transformation method, was studied by tensile testing at - 196 c- C. The principal deformation modes found at room temperature are also acti ve at - 196 c- C, with the exception of cross sfips and deformation bands. The most notable characteristics are the very small plastic elongation before fracture, and the liability of uranium to fail by parting'' on a twin composition plane. (auth)
